Colombia's Council of State has admitted a lawsuit seeking to annul the election of President Abelardo de la Espriella and Vice President José Manuel Restrepo. The legal challenge alleges that the campaign employed psychological violence against political and social rivals, using intimidating language such as ‘destripar’ and ‘dar de baja’. While the court acknowledged that psychological violence is a valid ground for electoral annulment, it rejected a request to provisionally suspend the officials, noting that the plaintiff must prove these actions actually influenced voter will and the final election outcome.

In separate developments, President De la Espriella has launched a major security offensive. He has ordered a joint operation involving the military, police, and Ecopetrol to combat a massive fuel theft ring. Approximately 123,700 barrels of refined products are reportedly stolen monthly from a 14-inch pipeline in the Cesar and Magdalena departments. The President warned that this stolen fuel is being used to process cocaine. Additionally, the administration has announced a new strategy to treat all illegal armed groups as terrorists and has reported 1,574 arrests related to organized crime since August 7.

Furthermore, the government is considering an extraordinary assembly for Ecopetrol in late September to discuss potential changes to its Board of Directors.
