TeamViewer fixes critical vulnerability allowing host-to-viewer attacks

TeamViewer has released version 15.83 to address three security vulnerabilities, including a high-severity flaw tracked as CVE-2026-111585. This specific vulnerability, which carries a CVSS score of 8.8, allows a malicious or compromised host machine to attack the viewer (the computer initiating the remote control session).

The flaw is caused by a buffer overflow that occurs when the viewer calculates the size of a screen image provided by the host. By sending manipulated screen data, a host can cause the viewer’s session to crash. On Windows systems, researchers at Remedio demonstrated that the flaw could potentially be used to bypass operating system defenses and execute arbitrary code on the viewer’s computer.

Affected software includes the TeamViewer Full Client on Windows, Linux, and macOS, the Windows Portable edition, and the Android Remote Control app. While the primary vulnerability affects the viewer, TeamViewer’s update also addresses two other flaws that impact the Host software, making the update critical for all users.
