Remote desktop software security vulnerabilities

Overview

Security vulnerabilities have been identified in multiple remote desktop applications.

In late October 2026, TeamViewer released version 15.83 to address three flaws, including a high-severity buffer overflow vulnerability tracked as CVE-2026-111585. This flaw allows a compromised host machine to attack the viewer, potentially bypassing operating system defenses to execute arbitrary code on Windows, Linux, and macOS systems.

Following this, a pre-authentication remote code execution vulnerability was discovered in TightVNC Viewer 2.8.88 x64 for Windows. The issue stems from an integer truncation error during framebuffer size calculations, which leads to memory corruption. Researchers noted that an attacker using a malicious VNC server could exploit this to launch processes via the Windows CreateProcessW function. Users are advised to update to version 2.8.90 to mitigate the risk.
