Sedentary lifestyle linked to increased cancer mortality and health risks
Recent medical research indicates that prolonged sedentary behavior and extended periods of sitting are linked to increased cancer mortality and various health complications. Studies suggest that just 30 minutes of uninterrupted sitting can contribute to a nearly 10% increase in the risk of dying from cancer. This sedentary lifestyle is associated with several obesity-related and type-2 diabetes-linked cancers, including those affecting the liver, kidney, pancreas, colon, breast, and thyroid.
Beyond cancer risks, medical specialists, including Gastroenterology Surgery Specialist Dr. Salih Can Çelik, warn that excessive time spent sitting on the toilet can increase vascular pressure in the anal and rectal regions, leading to hemorrhoids. Factors such as reading or using mobile phones while on the toilet can prolong this pressure. Other contributing risk factors for hemorrhoidal swelling include chronic constipation, obesity, pregnancy, and inadequate dietary fiber intake. Furthermore, prolonged sitting can negatively alter bowel motility and disrupt natural elimination reflexes.
