Sega creates Android Sonic variant for Fortnite crossover

Sega Creative Officer Takashi Iizuka has revealed that the company created a new character variant, ‘Android Sonic’, to facilitate the character's inclusion in Fortnite. The decision stemmed from a creative conflict: while Fortnite requires characters to use various weapons, Sega maintained that the traditional Sonic the Hedgehog is a character who ‘will never hold a gun.’

To resolve this, Sega developed the Android Sonic version, which allows the character to realistically use items like shotguns while remaining integrated into the game's mechanics. Additionally, the character's design was modified, including giving him longer legs, to ensure he matches the physical proportions and scale of other playable skins in Fortnite.

This collaboration is part of Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4, which features several video game crossovers.
