Sega Sonic the Hedgehog Fortnite crossover
Overview
Sega has introduced a modified version of Sonic the Hedgehog into Fortnite’s Chapter 7, Season 4, titled ‘Override’.
To facilitate this crossover, Sega Creative Officer Takashi Iizuka and Epic Games developers created a specific variant known as ‘Android Sonic’. This design choice was made to resolve a creative conflict regarding brand guidelines: Sega maintained that the traditional Sonic character ‘will never hold a gun’, whereas Fortnite gameplay requires characters to use various weapons.
The Android Sonic variant allows the character to use items like shotguns while remaining consistent with Sega’s brand identity. Additionally, the character’s physical proportions, such as leg length, were adjusted to ensure he matches the scale of other playable skins in the game.
