Segovia water restrictions imposed amid El Tejo reservoir depletion

Effective 27 June 2026, the Segovia City Council enacted emergency water‑use restrictions after the El Tejo reservoir was emptied and water had to be diverted from the Puente Alta reservoir to supply El Espinar. The measures ban irrigation of gardens and parks, as well as filling private swimming pools with potable water, across the city neighbourhoods of Albuera, Carmen, Comunidad de Ciudad y Tierra, Valdevilla, San José, Hontoria and surrounding industrial zones. Limited “salvamento” irrigation is permitted only in specific public areas such as the Plaza de la Gimnástica Segoviana and the park of Los Depósitos.

The restrictions also cover the minor local entity of Revenga, the urbanisations of Palazuelos de Eresma, and the municipalities belonging to the Mancomunidad de la Mujer Muerta – La Losa, Otero de Herreros, Ortigosa del Monte and Navas de Riofrío – as well as El Espinar. The council urged citizens, businesses and organisations to adopt “a rational, responsible and solidary use of water, a limited resource essential for guaranteeing supply”. The restrictions will remain in force until water levels improve, which authorities estimate could take at least two months pending an emergency water transfer.
