Italy infrastructure: Roadworks and landslides cause widespread traffic disruptions
Various infrastructure projects and incidents across Italy are causing significant traffic disruptions. On the A14 motorway, construction work in the Abruzzo region, particularly between Pescara Nord and Atri-Pineto, is leading to nighttime closures and diversions, impacting logistics companies and increasing travel times.
In the Sorrento Peninsula, the Pozzano-Seiano tunnel remains closed until at least October 15 following a landslide that damaged the fire suppression system. This closure has forced traffic onto the old SS145 route, creating chaos for commuters and tourists. Local hospitality leaders have expressed concern over the impact on the regional economy.
In Avellino, the Operational Committee for Road Viability is addressing critical issues on the SS7bis caused by maintenance on the SP24 overpass. The implementation of alternating one-way traffic is affecting over 350 daily public transport trips, including those for students and commuters. Authorities are working to monitor traffic flows and ensure priority for emergency vehicles.
