Seismic activity reported across Turkey and Aegean Sea

Multiple low-magnitude seismic events were recorded across Turkey and its neighboring regions between September 8 and September 11, 2026.

In the Aegean Sea, a 2.6 magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of Datça, Muğla, at a depth of 7.07 kilometers. This was preceded by a 1.0 magnitude tremor in Menteşe. Experts noted these are routine tectonic energy releases within the Aegean graben system.

Along the southern borders, a 2.0 magnitude earthquake centered in Zakho, Iraq, was felt near Silopi, Şırnak. Additionally, a 2.2 magnitude tremor originated in Hama, Syria, near Reyhanlı, Hatay.

Other recorded activity includes minor tremors in Adıyaman, Malatya, and Kahramanmaraş, as well as a 3.9 magnitude earthquake in the Akhalkalaki region of Georgia. Various micro-tremors were also reported in Ankara, Balıkesir, and the Marmara Sea.
