Overview

Turkey has experienced a series of seismic events across various provinces and maritime regions. Initial reports indicated multiple small-scale earthquakes in Balıkesir, specifically within the Sındırgı district, with magnitudes ranging from 1.1 to 3.0. Other tremors were recorded in Tunceli, Kahramanmaraş, Malatya, and İzmir. Subsequent activity included a 3.7 magnitude earthquake in the Aegean Sea off the coast of Karaburun, Izmir, at a depth of 43.40 kilometers. Additional tremors were noted near Çanakkale and in provinces including Adıyaman, Balıkesir, and Manisa. Citizens continue to monitor updates from AFAD and the Kandilli Observatory regarding these ongoing movements. Between August 31 and September 1, 2026, activity continued with a 2.1 magnitude tremor recorded near Gülpınar in the Çanakkale region. By the morning of September 3, 2026, frequent low-magnitude seismic activity was reported throughout the night and early morning hours. Notable clusters occurred in the Doğanşehir district of Malatya, with quakes ranging between 1.4 and 1.6 magnitude. Denizli also recorded multiple minor tremors, including a 2.1 magnitude quake in the Mediterranean region and smaller movements in the Kale district. Other recorded activity included low-magnitude events in Sivas, Ankara, Aydın, Kütahya, and Erzurum, as well as a minor tremor in Georgia. On September 3, 2026, more significant tremors were recorded. In the Kalecik district of Ankara, two earthquakes occurred within one minute of each other, measuring 3.9 and 3.1 in magnitude. In Manisa, a 3.7 magnitude earthquake struck the Yunusemre district at a depth of 8.52 kilometers, with tremors felt in nearby İzmir. Experts noted that seismic activity has been observed intermittently in the Kalecik and Çankırı areas over the last 15 years, with recent tremors occurring near the Çankırı Fault. Between September 8 and September 11, 2026, further low-magnitude events were recorded.
