Pacific seismic activity triggers tsunami alerts and regional monitoring

A series of seismic events has been recorded across the Pacific region. Following a significant earthquake in New Caledonia, the Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of the Chilean Navy (SHOA) ruled out the possibility of a tsunami affecting the Chilean coast. The earthquake, reported with magnitudes between 6.6 and 7.0, occurred near the French territory, but officials determined it did not meet the necessary conditions to generate a tsunami threat for Chile.

In Chile, additional seismic activity was noted, including a magnitude 5.2 earthquake near Navidad in the O’Higgins Region. Authorities and the National Service for Prevention and Response to Disasters (Senapred) continue to monitor regional stability and provide safety recommendations to the public.

In Costa Rica, the Observatory of Volcanology and Seismology (OVSICORI) reported increased seismicity in the South Pacific, including a magnitude 4.3 tremor near Osa. Experts noted that these events are part of natural energy release processes in a high-potential seismic zone and have not resulted in significant damage.
