Seismic activity in Mexico, Chile, and the Pacific region

Seismic activity has been recorded in Mexico and Chile. In mid-September, a magnitude 3.0 earthquake occurred near San José del Cabo, Mexico, at a depth of 13.7 kilometers. While residents in neighborhoods such as Ánimas Altas and El Zacatal reported feeling the tremor, no injuries or material damage were reported.

This event prompted renewed discussions regarding earthquake preparedness in Mexico and the impact of the dissolution of the Natural Disaster Fund (Fonden) on the state’s emergency response capacity.

By late September, further seismic activity was documented. A magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck near Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, at a depth of 7 kilometers. Simultaneously, Chile recorded various movements, including a magnitude 3.8 earthquake located 86 km west of San Antonio de los Cobres at a depth of approximately 204 km.

On September 24, a series of seismic events occurred across the Pacific region. Following earthquakes in New Caledonia with magnitudes between 6.6 and 7.0, the Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of the Chilean Navy (SHOA) ruled out the possibility of a tsunami affecting the Chilean coast.

In Chile, a magnitude 5.2 earthquake was recorded near Navidad in the O’Higgins Region. The National Service for Prevention and Response to Disasters (Senapred) continues to monitor regional stability. Additionally, the Observatory of Volcanology and Seismology (OVSICORI) in Costa Rica reported a magnitude 4.3 tremor near Osa, noting that such events are part of natural energy release processes in high-potential seismic zones.
