Seismic activity reported in Peru and Guatemala

Recent seismic activity has been recorded in Peru and Guatemala. In Peru, the Instituto Geofísico del Perú (IGP) has reported a series of tremors across various regions, particularly in the north and south, prompting authorities to advise citizens and local governments to adopt prevention and evacuation measures.

In Guatemala, the Instituto Nacional de Sismología, Vulcanología, Meteorología e Hidrología (Insivumeh) reported a 4.3 magnitude earthquake in the early hours of August 9, 2026. The epicenter was located in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Mexico, near the southwestern departments of Guatemala. No injuries or material damages were reported. Authorities noted that Guatemala remains a high-activity seismic zone due to tectonic plate interactions and urged residents to maintain emergency kits and family response plans.
