Selena Gomez seeks dismissal in Wondermind fraud lawsuit

Selena Gomez has filed a motion in a Delaware federal court to dismiss a lawsuit involving her mental health startup, Wondermind. The legal action was initiated by investors who claim they were defrauded of approximately $1.2 million.

The plaintiffs allege that Wondermind, co-founded by Gomez, her mother Mandy Teefey, and Daniella Pierson, misrepresented its business infrastructure, leadership, and resources. A central claim by the investors is that Gomez was presented as the “head of marketing” and would be intimately involved in the company’s operations to leverage her massive social media following, but that she subsequently reduced her involvement.

Gomez’s attorney, Matthew Rosengart, has characterized the allegations as “absurd,” “meritless,” and “frivolous.” The defense argues that Gomez was merely a consultant with the title of Chief Impact Officer and a minority shareholder, rather than a member of the management team or the board of directors. Rosengart stated that Gomez never agreed to manage the company and is not liable for its financial or operational outcomes. The legal team is also exploring potential sanctions against the plaintiffs for improperly including Gomez in the case.
