Self-service kayak and paddleboard rental kiosks launch in Virginia and Maryland
New self-service rental programs for kayaks and stand-up paddleboards have launched in several locations across the Mid-Atlantic region, utilizing automated kiosks to increase recreational access.
In Virginia, State Parks have partnered with Whenever Watersports to install automated rental kiosks at 10 state parks, including Bear Creek Lake, Belle Isle, and Lake Anna. The program allows visitors to rent equipment via a mobile app, providing flexibility outside of traditional staff-dependent hours. The Smith Mountain Lake location is expected to open on September 8.
In Maryland, St. Mary’s County Recreation & Parks has opened a Rent. Fun-powered kiosk at Snow Hill Waterfront Park. This station provides access to the Patuxent River and allows users to rent single or tandem kayaks and paddleboards through the Movatic app without a prior reservation. Equipment rentals include paddles and life jackets.
