Mid-Atlantic self-service watercraft rental expansion
Overview
The Mid-Atlantic region has seen an expansion of automated watercraft rental programs. In Delaware, the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNRC) introduced the ‘Paddle Quest’ challenge alongside new self-service kayak rentals at Delaware Seashore State Park, utilizing the Whenever Watersports app.
Following this, Virginia and Maryland implemented similar self-service programs. Virginia State Parks partnered with Whenever Watersports to install automated kiosks at ten locations, including Bear Creek Lake and Belle Isle, to provide flexible access via mobile apps. In Maryland, St. Mary’s County Recreation & Parks launched a kiosk at Snow Hill Waterfront Park, allowing users to rent kayaks and paddleboards through the Movatic app.
