Selçuklu Municipality launches free smoking‑cessation clinic
Selçuklu Municipality in Konya, together with the Selçuklu District Health Directorate, opened an on‑site Smoking Cessation Clinic inside the municipality’s service building. The clinic offers free counselling, information on the health risks of tobacco, and practical support for people who want to quit smoking. Visitors, including municipal staff and local residents, receive carbon‑monoxide breath tests and lung‑function measurements to assess their smoking level and lung health, enabling personalised treatment plans and follow‑up after quitting.
Mayor Ahmet Pekyatırmacı highlighted the project’s role in improving community health, stating that reducing tobacco use is essential for both individual well‑being and public health. The initiative is part of a broader series of social‑responsibility actions by the municipality aimed at raising health awareness.
The clinic operates under the supervision of health professionals who explain the dangers of smoking, discuss cessation methods, and provide access to government‑approved quit‑smoking medications at no cost.
