Semaglutide may slow aging process and reduce disease risks
New clinical data suggests that semaglutide, the active ingredient in medications such as Ozempic and Wegovy, may have effects that extend beyond weight reduction and blood sugar control.
Research presented at the European Society of Cardiology congress indicates that these GLP-1 receptor agonists might slow the biological aging process. A three-year study involving over 17,000 participants with overweight or obesity provided evidence for these findings. Professor Harlan Krumholz of the Yale School of Medicine noted that the medications appear to have far-reaching effects, with potential benefits in reducing risks for conditions such as heart attacks, Alzheimer’s, and cancer.
