Semarang Kota Lama Festival extended to 17 days for National MTQ
The Kota Lama Semarang Festival 2026 has been extended to a 17-day duration, running from September 4 to September 20, 2026. The extension is designed to coincide with the 31st National Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran (MTQ), which will be held in Semarang from September 11 to September 20, 2026.
Officials expect the MTQ to bring significant crowds to the region. While approximately 7,000 participants are expected from various provinces, the total number of visitors, including families and companions, could reach between 10,000 and 15,000 people. Central Java Regional Secretary Sumarno noted that this provides a vital opportunity to promote the Kota Lama heritage area and stimulate the local creative economy and tourism sectors.
The festival lineup includes various cultural and entertainment activities such as street orchestras, dance performances, jazz music, fashion shows, and the Pasar Malam Sentiling culinary market featuring legendary food vendors.
