Semarang police arrest suspect in murder of missing 18-year-old

The remains of 18-year-old Mozza Axilla Gunarsa, who had been missing since June 2025, were discovered in Semarang, Indonesia, in September 2026. Police have arrested a 22-year-old suspect, identified by the initials MDVS, in connection with her death.

According to Polrestabes Semarang, the suspect and the victim met via TikTok in May 2025. Investigators believe the suspect killed the victim in June 2025 following a dispute at his boarding house in the Candisari area, allegedly triggered by jealousy. The suspect reportedly suffocated the victim, bound her body, and disposed of it in a ravine near the Semarang-Solo Toll Road.

The victim's father, Singgih Datya Gunarsa, met with Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi at the family home to seek justice. The family has requested that the government ensure the legal process is handled thoroughly and that the suspect receives no leniency. The suspect faces charges under child protection laws and the Indonesian Penal Code for murder.
