Semarang prepares to host 31st National MTQ in September 2026
Preparations are nearing completion for the 31st National Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an (MTQ) in Semarang, Central Java, scheduled to take place from September 11 to 20, 2026. The event is expected to host thousands of participants and delegations from 37 to 38 provinces across Indonesia.
Semarang Mayor Agustina Wilujeng Pramestuti confirmed that venues, including the Pancasila Simpang Lima field, are ready. The city plans to host a parade on September 12 designed to showcase diversity and tolerance, featuring religious leaders and cultural performances. President Prabowo Subianto is expected to officially open the event on September 12.
Regional governments are actively preparing their delegations. Riau has announced performance bonuses of up to Rp200 million for first-place winners, while Banten has contributed 19 individuals to serve as national judges. The Maluku delegation has reported that its preparations are 90 percent complete. Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar emphasized that the event serves as a space to strengthen national unity and religious values through the study of the Qur’an.
