A new frontal system moved into central‑southern Chile on 1 August, bringing heavy rain, strong winds and a risk of tornado‑like convective clouds. The Directorate Meteorológica de Chile (DMC) warned of 40–80 mm of rain and winds of 50–70 km/h across the Maule, Ñuble and Biobío regions, while also issuing alert A381/2026 for possible tornado‑characteristic clouds in Araucanía, Los Ríos and Los Lagos.

The storm produced record rainfall in the Biobío region, with more than 380 mm recorded in July 2026 – the highest total in the past 15 years. Similar extreme precipitation was reported in the Choapa province of Coquimbo, where Los Vilos logged 39.8 mm. Flooding, landslides and river overflows prompted multiple alerts: a Red Alert for Concepción after the Andalién River exceeded the red threshold, Yellow Alerts for Alto Biobío because of potential releases from the Ralco dam, and Yellow alerts in several other communes.

Authorities evacuated residents in dozens of municipalities, sheltered 48 people, left 59 damaged, 611 isolated and left roughly 50 000 without electricity. INDAP deployed field teams to assist affected farmers, and Aguas del Valle declared a Yellow Alert in Sotaquí (Coquimbo) after turbidity forced a temporary suspension of water capture. The situation remains under close monitoring by SENAPRED, DMC and the Dirección General de Aguas.
