The National Animal Health Service (SENASA) has announced an exceptional sanitary measure to allow cattle owners to regularize adult bovines (older than six months) that have not been registered in the National Traceability System. Starting October 27, owners who missed the initial deadline can request this procedure once under Sanitary Resolution SENASA 029-2026.

Under this measure, producers are prohibited from moving their livestock until the registration in the Trazar-Agro system is complete. The process involves a fee of ₡1,832 per animal, payable at SENASA offices, and requires owners to purchase Official Individual Identification Devices (DIIO) through authorized providers.

SENASA personnel or officials from the SENASA-OIRSA agreement will conduct the procedure to verify the existence of the animals and their link to the establishment before proceeding with ear-tagging and registration. Luis Matamoros, Director General of SENASA, noted that the sanitary order issued for this process does not authorize the movement of cattle.
