Senado Federal veterinarian dies after dog attack in Brasília
Vitória Valle de Oliveira Pinha, a 36-year-old veterinarian, has died following a dog attack at the Brazilian Federal Senate's kennel in Brasília. The incident occurred on Tuesday, August 18, when a Belgian Malinois bit her in the neck, causing a cardiorespiratory arrest and severe arterial injury.
Pinha, who worked as an animal handler for the Senate's Cinotecnia Service, was treated at the Hospital de Base and underwent emergency surgery. Despite medical efforts, she passed away on Saturday, August 22, while in the intensive care unit. The Senate confirmed her death in an official note, expressing solidarity with her family and noting her dedication to her role.
The dog involved has been removed from operational duties and remains under observation for medical exams. The Senate is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack.
