Senator Agustín Dorantes Lambarri pushes reforms to speed settlement regularization in Querétaro

Senator Agustín Dorantes Lambarri announced a plan to accelerate the regularization of irregular settlements in the state of Querétaro. The state has identified 1,168 irregular settlements, with about 20% already regularized, 492 where the process has begun, and 435 still pending. Dorantes estimates that roughly 50,000 families live in these settlements.

He will present proposals to amend both federal and state laws to reduce bureaucratic delays that can last up to 15‑30 years. A meeting with the director general of the Instituto Nacional del Suelo Sustentable (INsus) is scheduled for early August to address backlogged cases. The reforms aim to grant property certainty, enable access to public services, and improve inheritance and quality‑of‑life prospects for affected families.
