Senator Eduardo Girão calls for end to Pix amendments and urges crackdown on betting influence in football

Senator Eduardo Girão (Novo‑CE) denounced the use of so‑called Pix amendments in a plenary speech, saying they weaken oversight of public spending and enable clientelism. He announced a proposal for a constitutional amendment to abolish Pix amendments and introduced a bill to treat the use of parliamentary funds for entertainment events as administrative misconduct, arguing that such spending diverts resources from priority areas such as hospitals.

Girão also linked Brazil’s early exit from the 2026 World Cup to the growing influence of sports‑betting companies. He urged the CBF to revise its sponsorship policies and to limit betting firms’ presence in Brazilian football, calling the defeat “the great loss for Brazil”. He advocated for a Brazilian coach, naming Filipe Luís as a qualified alternative to the current foreign manager, and criticized a Supreme Court ruling on fetal asystole, describing the practice as a prohibited method.
