Senator Enrique Inzunza faces extradition request over Sinaloa Cartel allegations

Mexican Senator Enrique Inzunza has not attended legislative sessions since April 29, following an extradition request from the United States. U.S. authorities have accused Inzunza of having links to the Sinaloa Cartel.

Senator Higinio Martínez, a fellow member of the Morena party, suggested that Inzunza should request a formal leave of absence before the next ordinary session begins. Martínez noted that while Inzunza is a legal expert, from a political standpoint, stepping aside would be the appropriate move to avoid unnecessary complications.

Inzunza is among nine Sinaloan politicians and officials, including Governor Rubén Rocha Moya, who have been identified in connection with alleged ties to the Sinaloa Cartel. His absence has been noted within the Permanent Commission, where he is the only accredited federal legislator who has not appeared to work since late April.
