Dominican Republic political leaders raise concerns over party integrity and electoralism
Political tensions are rising in the Dominican Republic as various leaders address internal party disputes and systemic issues. Within the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), presidential aspirant Francisco Javier García has accused certain factions linked to Gonzalo Castillo of orchestrating electoral fraud. García claims that approximately 523,000 people have been excluded from the voter rolls intended for the internal consultation scheduled for October 18, and has alleged that supporters of his candidacy are being targeted with bribery.
In a separate matter, the PLD is demanding a full investigation into alleged fraud involving the National Health Insurance (Senasa), following legal proceedings against 26 individuals accused of misappropriating public resources. Additionally, the party is working to strengthen its local presence, with plans to swear in hundreds of new members in La Altagracia.
On a broader legislative level, Senator Ramón Rogelio Genao has criticized the phenomenon of ‘electoralism,’ warning that premature political activism by both the government and the opposition is distracting officials from their institutional duties and governance responsibilities ahead of the 2028 general elections. Meanwhile, García has also engaged with productive sectors in La Vega, proposing a return to agricultural policies used during the Danilo Medina administration.
