Senator Rick Scott challenges legitimacy of Delcy Rodríguez

Florida Republican Senator Rick Scott has challenged the legitimacy of Delcy Rodríguez, labeling her a ‘cartel leader’ rather than the legitimate president of Venezuela. His remarks follow a recent meeting between Rodríguez and President Donald Trump in New York.

Scott called for a true democratic transition in Venezuela, emphasizing the need to restore democratic institutions and establish a legitimate Supreme Court to ensure free and fair elections. He asserted that all candidates must be allowed to campaign without facing oppression or persecution, specifically highlighting the need for opposition figure María Corina Machado to be able to return to her country and participate freely.

Additionally, the senator demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all Venezuelan political prisoners, stating that the nation cannot be free while individuals remain jailed for opposing the current regime.
