Senator Saliu Mustapha joins PDP after leaving APC

Senator Saliu Mustapha, representing Kwara Central, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and secured the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial ticket for the 2027 elections.

Mustapha cited inadequate consultation and poor management of political interests within the Kwara APC as reasons for his departure. He noted that the party's leadership had departed from principles of unity and internal democracy. His exit follows an unsuccessful bid for the APC governorship ticket, where he lost to the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Salihu Yahaya Danladi.

Mustapha described his move as part of a ‘rainbow coalition’ involving groups such as the G15, the Elders’ Caucus, and the Otoge Progressives. He stated that while he has joined the opposition PDP, his actions are not a rejection of President Bola Tinubu, alleging that former Senate President Bukola Saraki is also supporting a coalition to aid Tinubu’s re-election bid. Mustapha expressed confidence that he will defeat the incumbent Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who is the APC candidate for the Kwara Central senatorial seat in 2027.
