Sencelles solar plant project blocked due to environmental impact

The Government of the Balearic Islands has issued an unfavorable environmental impact declaration for the PFV Sencelles Hive photovoltaic plant project. This decision effectively halts the installation of a large-scale solar complex in Sencelles, Mallorca.

The project, promoted by Sun Hive SL, planned to install 33,600 bifacial solar panels across 21 hectares of forested rural land near the Palma-Sineu road. The development had an estimated execution budget exceeding 16 million euros and included a private transformer substation and a 16-kilometer evacuation line to Inca.

Authorities cited severe ecological and landscape impacts, noting that the construction would have required the removal of approximately 2,000 pine trees and significant shrubbery. The affected area contains habitats of community interest, including Mediterranean pine forests and garrigue, which support protected species such as the Bonelli's eagle and the tawny owl. The decision aligns with the positions held by the Sencelles City Council, the Mallorca Council, and various local community associations.
