Senegal advances urban development, climate action, and governance
Senegal is undertaking several initiatives focused on urban development, climate action, and participatory governance.
In an effort to modernize urban planning and infrastructure, Minister Moussa Bala Fofana led a mission to Italy and France. During this mission, a seven-year investment agreement worth 3.5 billion euros was announced in Milan with the IDA International Group and the THESAN Foundation. This includes an immediate 50 million euro pilot project. Discussions in France with groups such as Auchan focused on urban renewal, housing, and the development of new cities.
On the environmental front, Dakar hosted a national training workshop for Senegalese youth regarding climate change policies and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). The workshop emphasized the role of young people in the ecological transition, highlighting opportunities in renewable energy, agroecology, and the circular economy.
Additionally, the OIDP Afrique concluded an international training session in Dakar aimed at strengthening participatory budgeting. The program trained facilitators from several African nations, including Mali, Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, and Senegal, to better involve citizens in local public management and decentralization processes.
