Senegal blood donation drives address critical supply shortages

Multiple blood donation initiatives were held in Senegal on August 15, 2026, to address critical shortages in the national blood supply. In Dakar, the Kiiraay group collected over 250 units of blood at the National Blood Transfusion Center (CNTS). This mobilization follows reports of structural deficits in Senegal, where 2024 data showed a shortfall of approximately 50,000 blood units against the required 186,000.

Simultaneously, in Sedo Sebe, the Association of Students, Pupils, and Cadres of Sedo Sebe (AEECSS) organized a solidarity day that combined blood donation with the distribution of insecticide-treated mosquito nets. The event, supported by Professor Aliou Thiongane, coordinator of the National Malaria Control Program, aimed to combat malaria during the rainy season while supporting local health services.
