Senegal conducts repatriation of citizens from South Africa and Morocco

Senegalese authorities are conducting repatriation operations for citizens facing difficulties abroad in South Africa and Morocco.

In South Africa, 60 Senegalese nationals, including 23 children and approximately ten women, arrived at Dakar airport on Monday. Abdou Karim Cissé, Director of Senegalese Abroad, stated the operation follows government instructions to protect and assist citizens facing hardships in the region. This follows a smaller group that arrived the previous week, with more repatriations expected.

Separately, a convoy of 120 Senegalese migrants is scheduled to depart Morocco by land on Friday, September 4, 2026. These individuals, who were intercepted or rescued at sea by the Moroccan Royal Navy, will travel through Mauritania and are expected to arrive in the border town of Rosso, Senegal, by Saturday. Consular services in Dakhla report that 251 other Senegalese nationals remain in migrant centers in southern Morocco awaiting similar voluntary return operations.
