Senegal Customs Seize 970 kg of Cocaine in Koumpentoum

On Monday, 15 June 2026, the mobile customs brigade in Koumpentoum, Senegal, intercepted a shipment containing 970.6 kg of pure cocaine, equivalent to 844 bricks, hidden inside a truck arriving from a neighbouring country. The cargo, officially declared as "madd" fruit, was concealed in a specially built compartment within the vehicle and was discovered about 200 m from the national road on the Koumpentoum‑Koungheul axis near Ida Mouride. Laboratory analysis confirmed the substance’s purity and the haul was valued at roughly 58.2 billion CFA francs.

The seizure follows a recent tour by Customs Director General Babacar Mbaye of the south‑east customs region, during which he called for reinforced surveillance of key corridors and announced additional personnel and equipment. A judicial investigation has been launched to trace the full trafficking network behind the operation.
