Senegal faces internal government criticism and former president's UN Secretary‑General campaign

Former minister‑advisor Yoro Dia criticised the newly formed executive in Senegal, saying the government under Prime Minister Ahmadou Alamine Mohamed Lo lacks a clear strategic direction. He highlighted the departure of Ousmane Sonko from the prime ministerial office and accused both the new prime minister and President Bassirou Diomaye Faye of poor public‑policy management.

Former President Macky Sall was received by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée on 2 June 2026. Sall, campaigning for the United Nations Secretary‑General post, praised the "warm welcome" and "fruitful exchanges" and discussed with Macron the need to reform and revitalize the UN to improve its efficiency and geographic representation.
