Senegal Football Federation postpones league start to October 17
The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has announced a two-week delay for the start of the professional Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 championships. Originally scheduled to begin on Saturday, October 3, 2026, the season will now kick off on Saturday, October 17, 2026.
The FSF Emergency Committee made the decision following an evaluation of the national team schedules. The federation cited the need to provide “optimal conditions” for players and clubs to prepare for various international commitments. These include the senior national team’s match against Comoros on October 4, as well as upcoming fixtures for the U23, U20, U17, and beach soccer national teams.
While the federation focused on international schedules, the delay follows formal requests from several clubs, including Jaraaf de Dakar, AS Pikine, and Sonacos. Jaraaf had specifically requested more time to resolve a FIFA recruitment ban and register new players.
