Senegal implements climate adaptation and women's empowerment projects

Various development and climate adaptation initiatives are being implemented across Senegal to bolster local resilience and women's autonomy. In the Ziguinchor region, a partnership between the Government of Catalonia and the Ziguinchor Regional Development Agency (ARD) has established new infrastructure in Bissine to support economic activities and training for women, particularly those displaced by conflict.

Additionally, the West African Female Climate Action (ACF-AO) project recently concluded a three-year program in coastal areas of Ziguinchor. The initiative focused on leadership training, advocacy, and mangrove reforestation to restore local ecosystems.

In the Guinguinéo department, the Climate-Smart Village (VIC) project, supported by the Belgian cooperation agency ENABEL, the Senegalese Institute of Agricultural Research (ISRA), and the FNDASP, has introduced diversified agricultural techniques including grafting, composting, and fish farming to improve yields.

Meanwhile, in Keur Demba Ngoye, a 281 million FCFA project led by CICODEV Afrique, TEREO, and AGROSOL Academy aims to train women in agroecology over the next three years. This transition from peanut monoculture to diversified, sustainable farming is intended to protect soil health and mitigate climate change impacts.
