Senegal inaugurates $738 million Mbour-Fatick-Kaolack highway

President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has officially inaugurated the 100-kilometer Mbour-Fatick-Kaolack toll highway in Senegal. The project, which includes 15 kilometers of connecting roads, was funded by China with a total investment of $738 million. The new infrastructure aims to link the Petite Côte with the peanut basin, facilitating the movement of people and goods.

The construction phase generated 3,000 direct jobs and involved approximately 20 local Senegalese companies through subcontracting worth 60 billion CFA francs. The highway is expected to improve regional mobility and support the development of Agropoles.

However, the project has faced local opposition. The Ndiosmone-Palmarin collective is contesting the relocation of a planned interchange. The group, led by Birama Ndiaye, is calling on the President to restore the exit at Médina Dokh in the Tattaguine commune, arguing that the current shift to Thiadiaye deprives their community of essential socio-economic access.
