Infrastructure development projects have been initiated and completed across Senegal and Burkina Faso to improve regional connectivity and flood resilience.

In Senegal, local authorities in Rufisque launched a 278 million FCFA project to complete a 300-meter section of a central canal to mitigate flooding. The construction phase generated 3,000 direct jobs and distributed over 18 billion CFA francs in wages, with approximately 20 Senegalese companies participating through subcontracting valued at 60 billion CFA francs.

Despite the project’s economic contributions, local opposition has emerged regarding the highway’s layout. The Collective for the Defense of Interests of the Ndiosmone-Fimela-Palmarin-Djiffère axis, led by Birama Ndiaye, has criticized the placement of the Thiadiaye exit. The group is calling on the President to restore a planned interchange at Médina Dokh in the Tattaguine commune, arguing that the current relocation deprives their community of essential socio-economic and demographic access.
