Senegal invests 175 billion CFA francs in agricultural storage and value chains

Senegal is strengthening coordination between its Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock (MASAE) and the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MINCOM) to optimize agricultural and livestock value chains. Ministers Dr. Cheikhou Oumar Ba and Serigne Guèye Diop are working to better align production, storage, processing, financing, and marketing to reduce losses and increase national competitiveness.

To support these efforts, the government plans to invest 175 billion CFA francs in storage infrastructure, aiming to store 250,000 tonnes of agricultural products annually. This includes the delivery of cold storage equipment to Fass Boye and Sangalkam by the end of the year.

Additionally, a price equalization and stabilization fund for locally produced rice will be established. This mechanism will be funded by an 8 CFA franc levy on every kilogram of imported rice sold in Senegal, a move expected to generate between 13 and 15 billion CFA francs annually to help keep local rice prices competitive against imports.
