Senegal leaders highlight infrastructure and resource crises
Political leaders in Senegal are raising alarms regarding deteriorating living conditions and infrastructure deficits in the Mbacké and Koungheul departments.
In Mbacké, Deputy Thierno Alassane Sall reported severe challenges including water rationing in villages such as Daïka and Diaby, and the closure of schools due to a lack of teachers. These closures force students to travel long distances by cart, increasing the risk of school dropouts. Sall criticized the national political discourse for prioritizing rivalries over these fundamental needs.
In Koungheul, KIIRAAY departmental coordinator Babou Khady Dieng highlighted several critical issues, including difficult road conditions during the rainy season, youth unemployment, and a lack of sanitary equipment. Dieng specifically called for government intervention to support farmers struggling with a prolonged lack of rainfall, which threatens food security and rural incomes.
