Senegal: Local infrastructure and rural empowerment initiatives

In Podor, Senegal, Mayor Mamadou Racine Sy hosted the final of the Mayor's Cup, featuring a new synthetic pitch at the Alassane Wade stadium. The infrastructure, costing over 200 million CFA francs, was funded through the mayor's personal funds. Following the sporting event, the town hosted the passing of the Olympic flame for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games.

In Paoskoto, Ndeye Fatou Mbodj Diattara, General Administrator of FONGIP, met with local female entrepreneurs to discuss economic empowerment. Diattara emphasized that rural women are a priority for President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. She stated that FONGIP aims to move beyond Dakar to provide inclusive financing and overcome banking guarantee barriers for women in remote territories, seeking to create sustainable income rather than debt.
