Youth and women economic empowerment in Africa
Overview
Economic empowerment initiatives for women and youth have been implemented in Burundi and Senegal. In Burundi, the Youth Economic Empowerment and Employment Program (PAEEJ) provided funding to five entrepreneurs in Gitega for projects including printing, multimedia, soap production, audio production, and leatherwork.
In Senegal, the Delegation for Rapid Entrepreneurship for Women and Youth (DER/FJ) distributed 13,450,000 francs to fund 75 development projects for women in Ndiassane. This initiative follows directives from President Bassirou Diomaye Faye to accelerate economic support for women.
Furthering these efforts, the General Administrator of FONGIP, Ndeye Fatou Mbodj Diattara, met with female entrepreneurs in Paoskoto to discuss inclusive financing. Diattara noted that FONGIP aims to expand beyond Dakar to help rural women overcome banking guarantee barriers and create sustainable income.
