Senegal Parliament Launches Public Hearings on 2026 World Cup Participation

The Senegalese National Assembly’s Commission of Education, Youth, Sports and Leisure announced public hearings to scrutinise the country’s involvement in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The hearings begin on 22 July 2026 and will examine the preparation conditions, composition of the official delegation, and the administrative, financial, logistical and governance aspects of the campaign.

Witnesses are expected to include senior public officials, representatives of the Senegalese Football Federation and members of the technical and administrative staff. The inquiry follows earlier controversy, such as reports that promised player bonuses were not paid and that the team’s hotel in New York was “absolutely not up to the standards of a team of this stature”. The commission aims to gather comprehensive evidence, issue recommendations for future international competitions and reinforce transparent governance of Senegalese sport.
