Senegal pilots judicial archive digitization at Pikine-Guédiawaye tribunal
The Pikine-Guédiawaye tribunal in Senegal has launched a pilot project to digitize judicial archives, supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The initiative aims to modernize document management and integrate records into the E-Justice platform to reduce procedural bottlenecks and improve information access.
Justice Minister Moussa Sarr recently met with a UNDP delegation to review the project's progress. While initial testing with specialized equipment has yielded encouraging results, officials identified challenges regarding data management and the need for qualified personnel to handle scanning and archiving. To address these human resource gaps, the Ministry of Justice is considering a partnership with the École de bibliothécaires, archivistes et documentalistes (EBAD).
This effort is part of a broader digital overhaul of Senegal’s court system. Additionally, the Ministry of Justice received IT and office equipment valued at over 136 million CFA francs under the JUCICOM project to reinforce civil and commercial jurisdictions.
