Senegal judicial archive digitization pilot
Overview
The Pikine-Guédiawaye High Court in Senegal has initiated a pilot project to digitize and manage judicial archives using artificial intelligence and local digital infrastructure. Supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Republic of Korea, the project aims to modernize document management and integrate records into the E-Justice platform to reduce procedural bottlenecks.
While initial testing with specialized equipment has shown encouraging results, officials have identified challenges concerning data management and the requirement for qualified personnel to manage scanning and archiving. To address these human resource needs, the Ministry of Justice is considering a partnership with the École de bibliothécaires, archivistes et documentalistes (EBAD). This initiative is part of a broader digital overhaul of the Senegalese court system, which includes receiving IT and office equipment under the JUCICOM project to reinforce civil and commercial jurisdictions.
