Dakar police dismantle multiple drug trafficking networks

Senegalese law‑enforcement agencies carried out two separate operations that broke up drug‑trafficking rings in Dakar. The Brigade de Recherches (BR) of the Faidherbe gendarmerie arrested four suspects – two Nigerian nationals and Senegalese women, including F. B. Guèye, daughter of NGO leader Mame Makhtar Guèye – after an undercover purchase of a gram of cocaine. The suspects were charged with association of criminals, cocaine possession and international drug trafficking.

In a distinct incident, police responded to a violent brawl at the home of a local wrestler in the Diamaguène Sicap Mbao district. The disturbance, linked to a dispute over 300 000 FCFA allegedly generated from a drug‑sale, led to the arrest of five individuals on charges of drug trafficking, robbery and violent assault. One suspect was found with head injuries and blood‑stained clothing; investigators say the money was entrusted to a local shopkeeper who later claimed he kept it under threat. Both operations illustrate a broader crackdown on illicit drug networks in Senegal’s capital.
