Senegal police seize 260 kg Indian hemp in Mbour, dismantle Kaolack drug network

On the night of 3 July 2026, the regional drug brigade of Thiès, operating under the Office Central de Répression du Trafic Illicite des Stupéfiants (OCRTIS), intercepted two suspects in Mbour and confiscated eight parcels of Indian hemp weighing about 260 kg. The raid also resulted in the seizure of three vehicles used to transport the narcotics, while several other suspects fled during the pursuit.

A day earlier, the Kaolack regional drug brigade (BRS) carried out an infiltration operation that led to the arrest of two traffickers in the village of Malo, Latmingué. Police seized a total of 15 kg of Indian hemp – two kilograms during the initial arrest and an additional 13 kg recovered from a hidden barrel at a suspect’s residence. Both men were detained on charges of drug trafficking and association of malefactors. The two operations illustrate OCRTIS’s intensified efforts against illicit hemp trafficking in Senegal.
