Senegal police seize Indian hemp shipments amid Grand Magal pilgrimage

Police in Senegal arrested several individuals for possession and trafficking of Indian hemp during heightened security operations linked to the annual Grand Magal pilgrimage. In Torokorobougou, authorities detained a transport worker identified as A. B after he attempted to place a suitcase containing 30 bricks of Indian hemp on a Tilemsi bus. The driver refused, prompting the suspect to leave the package near a railway station before being apprehended.

In Touba, a separate operation on 1 August led to the arrest of two young men, identified as P. N. Faye (22) and C. Niang (19). Police found six doses of kush in one rider’s bag and 500 g of Indian hemp, packed in 72 cornets, in the other’s possession. Both were taken into custody for drug‑related offenses as investigations continue to trace the supply network.
